Fishing stories can be exaggerated, without a doubt.

The same cannot be said about the success of the 2012 Fishing For Food event, held June 7-9, when members of the community filled up more than three Legend Boats with more than two tons of non-perishable goods for the Elgin Street Mission.

Pastor Rene Soulliere, Chaplain/Director of the Elgin Street Mission, sent out a special thank you to community partners that helped make this event a success: KICX 91.7FM, Ramakko's Source for Adventure, Legend Boats, Joey's Restaurants, Greater Sudbury Police Service, Pepsi and the Tim Horton's in the Algonquin Square.

“I really am amazed by the food and coffee donations that came in, our room is packed,” Soulliere said in a press release. “I thank God for the support we received from KICX 91.7FM and the Rotary Club of Sudbury Sunrisers. The generosity of the people in this city is amazing; you share the heart of God for the poor and cast down. I thank you so much and will put your gifts to good use. May God bless you and reward you richly for your kindness.”

All proceeds from this event have been donated to the Elgin Street Mission, which has been working with the people of Sudbury's inner city since 1989. The organization has grown from providing toast and coffee to a few in need to being a primary service provider in Sudbury serving more than 300 people every day.

Each year, more than 100,000 meals are served to those in need. Clients have on-site access to laundry and shower facilities, as well as phone and fax services.
