Councillors to decide on fate of Summer Games bid

Greater Sudbury will decide next week weather to continue with its bid to host the 2021 Canada Summer Games. At their meeting Jan. 10, city council will vote whether to commit $3 million an accept responsibility for any deficits that may result from hosting the Games. After receiving widespread support on council initially, some councillors have expressed doubts in recent months on whether the bid is a good idea for the city. 

ICYMI: Ice hut rental ad draws complaints of racism 

A Kijiji ad for a ice hut rental company in North Bay has created a storm of protest on social media. The ad, for IceHutRentals.ca ends with "Please no status card users. You are not welcome in our huts. Equality for all or you will not get the time of day from us and will lose any deposit paid to us." Read the full story here.

Sentencing for man charged with impaired for Elgin crash in July

The man who was charged with impaired driving after crashing into parked cars on Elgin Street back in July, a crash captured on Sudbury.com's security footage, is to be sentenced tomorrow morning. Reporter Jonathan Migneault will be there for the sentencing.

Expect scattered flurries and biting winds today

Environment Canada is expecting cloudy weather and scattered flurries to dog the city for much of the day, but it will be the wind that's going to make it feel particularly wintry today. The morning will stay at about -5, falling to -7 in the afternoon, and -15 in the evening. However, biting winds mean wind chills all day so bundle up.
