The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry has extended their Flood Warning for Sudbury and Parry Sound Districts until Friday, June 14.

This directly effects residents in the West Arm area of Lake Nipissing, French River and Lower Pickerel River Watersheds, which include the Municipality of St. Charles, Municipality of French River, the Municipality of Killarney, McConkey Township, Blair Township, Mowat Township and Henvey Inlet First Nation.

Lake Nipissing water levels are currently 0.15 m above the maximum 'non-damage' water level of 196.22, said the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry in a press release. Although inflows into the lake have decreased, the ministry said the lake is still highly vulnerable to rainfall events, such as the 20-33 mm of precipitation expected from Monday into Tuesday.

Residents are encouraged to monitor conditions and prepare accordingly, especially those in low-lying areas, as there has been flooding in homes and other local infrastructure.

In addition, residents are advised that shorelines, river banks and creeks are very slippery and unstable at this time, and pose a serious hazard when combined with cold, open water.
