FNX names deposit in honour of exploration VP

FNX Mining Company Inc. has officially renamed its Levack Footwall Deposit as the Morrison Deposit in honour of Gord Morrison, the company's senior vice-president of exploration.

FNX Mining Company Inc. has officially renamed its Levack Footwall Deposit as the Morrison Deposit in honour of Gord Morrison, the company's senior vice-president of exploration.

Scheduled to begin commercial production in mid-2010, the Morrison Deposit was discovered in 2005 by the FNX Exploration Team, led by the deposit's new namesake.

Employed for 32 years with Inco Limited as an exploration geologist, Gord Morrison retired in 2003 to join FNX, where he was instrumental in assembling and mentoring the company's internationally recognized exploration team.

Morrison and his team have made nine discoveries on FNX properties since 2002, five of which have since been put into production.

"Gord Morrison is one of the world's most knowledgeable and talented exploration geologists and has a long history of exploration successes in the Sudbury Basin," said Terry MacGibbon, chairman and CEO of FNX, in a release.

"His contribution to FNX has been outstanding. There are many great geologists and explorationists but there are very few mine finders and Gord has a unique and special talent for finding mines."
