The Ward 8 Community Action Network and the Twin Forks Neighbourhood Association have collaborated to install a splash pad at Twin Forks Playground in New Sudbury.
The campaign kicked-off in 2018, with an initial contribution of $94,100 from the City of Greater Sudbury’s Healthy Community Initiatives fund.
On July 8 the Ward 8 CAN announced they were just $5,000 away from their $115,000 fundraising target and were seeking community support to help make the project a reality.
As a result, Peter Shuparski, CEO of Sudbury’s ‘For Senior’s Only’ and former Madison Avenue resident, reached out with an offer to provide the $5,000 required to move the project forward.
“My family and I have spent a lot of time on the swings at Twin Forks Playground”, said Shuparski. “I’ve wanted to give back to the New Sudbury community for some time and this project seemed like a perfect fit. I am very proud to support the development of the park’s splash pad, and look forward to visiting the pad with my family once construction is complete”.
The eco-friendly splash pad will optimize its water usage via a push-button system, and will consist of additional enhancements should funds permit, or the $115,000 fundraising target is exceeded.
“For those who are still interested in supporting the cause, we will be continuing to collect donations for pieces that will make the splash pad an even better experience for the community”, said Ward 8 CAN Chair Rachelle Niemela. “This could include additional seating, landscaping and a shade structure.”
