Former Sudbury mayor Jim Gordon will address city council Wednesday evening on the ongoing bed crisis at Sudbury Regional Hospital.

Gordon will make a presentation involving concluding remarks gleaned from public input sessions and from final key recommendations regarding the alternative level of care (ALC) crisis affecting the community.

Part of the discussion may involve the recommending of the use of the Memorial site for ALC patients until more bed spaces can be initiated in the community.

While there are significant costs to be incurred from meeting provincial regulations for housing patients at the Memorial site, there has been a great deal of discussion revolving around how to come up with a concept there that does not involve extensive and costly renovations.

Both Gordon and hospital CEO Vickie Kaminski have mentioned the use of the Memorial site as a stop gap measure to deal with the crisis if an affordable way can be found to utilize it.

Gordon is chair of the city's advisory panel on health cluster development. His report will be tabled at the meeting.
