Veteran politician Jim Gordon and former Assembly of First Nations National Chief Phil Fontaine will be presented with honorary doctorates by Laurentian University at its fall convocation ceremonies Nov. 1.
Gordon — who will receive his doctorate at the 10 a.m. ceremony — is known as the former MPP for Sudbury, as well as the city's longtime mayor. Fontaine will be honoured at the 2:30 p.m. ceremony.
“Both of our honorary doctorate recipients have devoted their lives to public service, and both have built a lasting legacy in their respective communities,” said Laurentian University President and Vice-Chancellor Dominic Giroux, in a press release.
On. Nov. 3, Huntington University will present author, lawyer and former cabinet minister David Tsubouchi with an honorary doctorate. In this case, the ceremony will take place at the Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre in Toronto.
"David Tsubouchi's exemplary commitment to community service is truly inspirational," said Kevin McCormick, Huntington University's president and vice-chancellor, in a press release.
"He is a nationally recognized leader whose contributions will continue to have a profound impact on future generations."
