Four more school bus routes have been cancelled and six have been partially cancelled for next week as ongoing staffing issues with school buses continues.
Leuschen Transportation continues to have challenges recruiting drivers as many of its drivers have decided not to get behind the wheel during the COVID-19 pandemic, Sudbury Student Services Consortium said this week.
The full and partial cancellations have left dozens of families scrambling to find alternative means of getting their children to school.
Routes fully cancelled this coming week (Oct. 13) are:
- No. L011: École Sacre Coeur, Sudbury Secondary, Marymount Academy, Collège Notre-Dame, Lansdowne Public and St. David Catholic (morning), and St. Charles College, Landsdowne Public and St. David Catholic (afternoon)
- No. L128: Lockerby Composite and École St-Denis (morning), and Sudbury Secondary, Marymount Academy, Collège Notre-Dame and Holy Cross Catholic (afternoon)
- No. L860: St. Benedict Catholic, MacLeod Public and École St-Denis (morning), and Lively Secondary, St. James Catholic grades 7 and 8, École St-Paul (Lively), Walden Public and St. James Catholic (afternoon); and
- No. L871: Lively Secondary, École St-Paul, Walden Public and St. James Catholic (morning and afternoon).
Routes partially closed this coming week are:
- No. L114: afternoon route only cancelled for Lo-Ellen Park Secondary, Lockerby Composite, Princess Anne Public and St. Francis Catholic;
- No. L115: afternoon route only cancelled for Holy Cross Catholic Elementary;
- No. L118: morning route only cancelled for Lasalle Secondary; afternoon route only cancelled for St. Benedict Catholic and R.L. Beattie Public;
- No. L125: morning secondary school route only cancelled for Lockerby Composite, Lo-Ellen Park and St. Benedict; afternoon route only cancelled for St. Benedict Catholic and Alexander Public;
- No. L812: afternoon route only cancelled for Sudbury Secondary, Marymount Academy, Collège Notre-Dame, Algonquin Secondary and R.L. Beattie;
- No. L815: morning route only cancelled for St. Benedict; afternoon route only cancelled for Lo-Ellen Park and R.L. Beattie.
All affected parents should have received an automated call on Oct. 9.
“The Sudbury Student Services Consortium is working closely with school bus operators in finding solutions and ensures that recruitment efforts are ongoing,” the consortium said in a news release. “We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause to parents, students and schools.”
