Four in custody after shooting in M'Chigeeng

Photo of dramatic arrest circulating on social media

Four suspects are in custody following a shooting at the M'Chigeeng First Nation yesterday on Manitoulin Island, the Manitoulin Expositor reports.

Although early reports suggested there may have been a homicide as a result of the shooting, it has since been reported that victims were taken to hospital for treatment.

Two photos related to the incident are circulating on social media, which appear to show two of the four suspects kneeling on Swing Bridge with their hands behind their head. The two remaining female suspects were apprehended by police at the corner of Hill Street and Hwy 542 later that day, said the Manitoulin Expositor.

Students and staff at Manitoulin Secondary School who had been practicing for the school play that day, were placed in lockdown until the suspects were located. The Manitoulin Expositor said this was merely a precautionary measure, as the shooting did not occur on school grounds.

No details as to the time, location, victims or suspects of the incident have been released.
