Good morning, Sudbury.

Here are four stories to start your day.

Be sure to check in with Sudbury.com every morning to see what stories we're working on that day, or get caught up on something you may have missed.

ICMYI: Opioid addiction a major issue in the north:

The gravity of Ontario's problem with opioid addiction, and the toll it takes on thousands of people every year, is not fully understood by the public, says the lead author of a new report on opioid use and its adverse effects in the province. Sudbury.com published a story about Northern Ontario’s problem with opioids over the weekend.

New ethics column:

Sudbury.com has partnered with the Ethics Centre at the University of Sudbury on a new column on, fittingly, ethics. Under the heading “Right and Wrong”, the idea is to tackle timely topics from an ethical standpoint. Check out the first column, which explores the inherent dangers to democracy inherent in the kind of populism that elected Donald Trump.

ICMYI: Grocery store pays tribute to a local volunteer

John Goudreau got more than he bargained for during his morning routine buying groceries at Dumas' Your Independent Grocers. The grocery store paid for his groceries and gave him two gift cards for his years of service with the Irish Regiment of Canada in Sudbury.

The week’s weather:

Expect highs in the low teens to start the week, and a 30 per cent chance of showers Tuesday and Wednesday. For current weather conditions, short-term and long-term forecasts visit Sudbury.com's weather page at www.sudbury.com/weather.
