The journey to justice began with a few small steps, but will end after a 4,500-km cross-Canada Freedom Walk to help strengthen understanding and empathy for survivors of violent crime.

In Sudbury, the event takes place June 14 at the Bell Park Amphitheatre beginning at 10 a.m. The walk will finish at 11:30 a.m. at Tom Davies Square with speeches. Deputy mayor Joscelyne Landry-Altmann will be participating. Also participating will be Kids Helpline, Victim Services Ontario, Crime Stoppers, Sudbury police and fire services and EMS.

The walk's main goal is to raise money for the Canadian Crime Victim Foundation scholarship fund. Footsteps are available for purchase online. They are signed with the name of the donator and placed on the walk trailer, allowing supporters to join the walk across Canada. Visit www.ccvf.net for more information.

The walk is also designed to raise awareness of crime victims' rights while sharing a message of anti-bullying and anti-violence, according to a news release. The cross-Canada walk started in Vancouver, BC, and will end in Toronto after 63 days.
