With Sudbury's sixth annual Polar Plunge less than a week away, organizers are asking for the last round of applicants to 'be bold, get cold' in support of Special Olympics Ontario.

At 12 p.m. on Mar. 2, Greater Sudbury's finest will plunge into the icy waters of the Ramsey Lake Boat Launch, to help those with intellectual disabilities participate in sport and recreational activities across the province.

Greater Sudbury Police Chief Pederson will once again be participating in the Polar Plunge, and has agreed to dress as a big yellow duck should he raise $3,000 for the event.

The Sudbury Polar Plunge has raised more than $115,750 since its introduction in 2014, and hopes to raise an additional $30,000 through this year's event.

Special Olympics Ontario is part of a global movement, dedicated to promoting respect, acceptance, inclusion and human dignity for people with intellectual disabilities through sport. This year, the Special Olympics celebrates 50 years of supporting athletic achievement across 169 countries.

To register and/or donate to the event, visit Sudbury's Polar Plunge webpage. Those interested in supporting Chief Pedersen's pledge can do so by visiting his personal sponsorship page
