The province has extended the appointment of French Language Services Commissioner, François Boileau, for another five years, starting September 2012.

The French Language Services Commissioner has a mandate to lead independent investigations under the French Language Services Act - either in response to complaints or on his own initiative, according to a news release. The Commissioner also monitors the progress made by government agencies in the delivery of French-language services in Ontario.

"Over these past five years, Commissioner Boileau has proven to be an invaluable partner for both the government and the Francophone community,” Madeleine Meilleur, Minister Responsible for Francophone Affairs, said. “Thanks to his constructive recommendations and our government's commitment to action, we have made significant progress together.”

Boileau said he is honoured by the renewed trust that this government has placed in him.

“I look forward to continuing to work with the Francophone community, the government and its employees for the benefit of all Ontarians.”

Boileau was appointed as Ontario's first French Language Services Commissioner on Aug. 1, 2007 for two years, and then re-appointed for three years in 2009. This will be his third mandate.

The Office of the French Language Services Commissioner was created following amendments to the French Language Services Act in May 2007.
