Conseil scolaire public du Grand Nord de l’Ontario will be providing a before and after-class program called Place des jeunes in its elementary schools in the Greater City of Sudbury for children four to 12 years of age starting in September 2010.

Place des jeunes will be led by registered early childhood educators in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators and will be the only Extended- Day Program offered to CSPGNO students.

The Extended-Day Program is currently being developed by a team of experts from the board, stated a press release.

Children will benefit from a variety of educational, athletic and cultural activities such as, homework clubs, reading clubs, music, visual arts and theatre workshops.

According to Louise d’Amour, the school board's, director of education, “This initiative aims at giving children a seamless full-day learning program, designed to meet their needs and bring out the best in every child. This approach will enable children to grow, learn and play before, during and after class in a familiar environment. CSPGNO will continue to work with Carrefour francophone to provide daycare services to toddlers and preschool children."

Parents who wish to enroll their child in the program will be asked to pay a fee. Subsidies will be available for families, based on financial need. CSPGNO plans to provide this program during professional development days, the March break and various holidays.
