The Ontario Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) wants local residents to take their four-footed friends for a walk with them on Sunday, Sept. 12, as the organization raises money with its Paws for a Cause Walkathon.

The event is in its 17th year in Greater Sudbury, and starts at Bell Park's Main Beach Gazebo. Registration starts at 10 a.m., with the walk beginning at 11:30 a.m.

For every $25 in pledges raised, participants will receive a ballot to enter a draw for a Walt Disney trip for two, donated by Gerry Lougheed Jr.

The event is one of the Sudbury SPCA's largest fundraisers of the year. Each dollar raised in the city stays in the city.

Pledge forms are available at the SPCA at 760 Notre Dame Avenue, Lampinen Fine Art and Custom Framing on 1350 Regent St., Lougheed's Flowers at 252 Regent St., and most city pet stores. Pledge forms can also be printed from the Ontario SPCA website at www.ontariospca.ca.

For more information, phone the Sudbury SPCA branch at 705-566-9582.
