GEODE Dragons go live

One entrepreneur will take home $1,000 to develop their business on Sept. 2.

The GEODE Dragons will pick a winner at Tom Davies Square after contestants share their business ideas during the contest styled after CBC's Dragon's Den.

The live finale is open to the public, and begins at 6:30 p.m.

On top of selecting a winning business idea, GEODE Sudbury will also collect donations on behalf of the Red Cross for flood victims in Pakistan.

“GEODE is not only concerned with success and development within our community, but also others all around the world,” John Marunchak, GEODE program coordinator, said.

“Dragons” Gerry Labelle, Anne Cooper, John Kennedy and Dana Jennings will judge six entrant's business ideas.

Contestants competing for the prize include:

-Krystie Coyne of F3- Fast Forward Flirting is a speed dating service that will help singles connect and match individuals with others who share interests and desires

-Laura Zinck of an eco-friendly hair salon- Zinck is an experienced hair stylist who wants to move to greener products and more environmentally-friendly services

-Jana Schilkie of Jezebel's Closet- The lingerie shop will provide quality bras that fit well and flatter all figures

-Steve Gagné of High Impact Thrills (HIT) Productions- This film company supports local talent on both sides of the camera in the process of producing action flicks.

-Kristy Skanes of The Garden Gallery Café- This restaurant that caters to vegetarians and vegans will offer more than just food — local artwork will decorate the café.

-Pierre Laframbroise of Branch Flutes- Laframbroise crafts flutes from native Ontario trees. Each flute has its own sound and shape, and mixes nature with art and music.
