The Alzheimer’s Society Sudbury-Manitoulin North Bay and Districts invites the public to experience sensory obstructions that simulate, to a degree, what it's like to live with Alzheimer’s disease.

The 12mins in Alzheimer’s Dementia simulation will take place at the Alzheimer’s Society's offices, located at 960 B Notre Dame Avenue, on Monday, Jan. 18, to coincide with Alzheimer Awareness Month.

During the simulation participants will be asked to perform simple tasks while wearing goggles to limit their vision, gloves with rice in the fingertips to simulate arthritis, headphones with distracting noises to create confusion, and stones in their shoes, to also simulate arthritis.

“Although it is impossible to know exactly what it feels like to have Alzheimer’s disease the 12 Minutes in Alzheimer’s Dementia attempts to recreate that chaotic sense of mental decline and is a great activity to provide perspective,” said an Alzheimer’s Society press release.

The event will run from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m

If you would like to participate email [email protected] by Friday, Jan. 16. Spaces are limited.
