Get inspired by some Toastmasters

The Greater Sudbury Speakers Club invites the community to be audience members for the Toastmaster’s International Inspirational Speech and Evaluation contests, which will be held at Cambrian College’s eDome on April 2 and April 9.

Audience members will see a diverse group of speakers.

“It’s an opportunity to be inspired by accomplished speakers and to check out what Toastmasters is about,” said Del Nussey, contest Chair.

For the Inspirational Speech contest, speakers will be challenged to wow the crowd with their rhetorical devices and expressive body language.

Points will be awarded for creative story-telling, speech organization, body language, vocal variety and humour. Speakers will have five to seven minutes to share personal experiences and call the audience to action with an inspirational ending.

During the evaluation section, contestants will evaluate a test-speaker. They’ll listen to the speaker, have brief opportunity to organize their thoughts, assess how the test speaker excelled, and provide areas for improvement.

Evaluators will be judged based on analytical quality, recommendations, technique and summary. 

A panel of anonymous judges will pick the winners of both the Inspirational Speech and Evaluation contests. Winners will move onto the Division and District levels.
