Children of all ages are getting their fishing gear ready for the Kids, Cops and Canadian Tire Fishing Event hosted by the Greater Sudbury Police Service on July 8.

This event will take place on Whitewater Lake and will be departing from Whitewater Park at 9 a.m.

The Greater Sudbury Police Service and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry will be on-hand to ensure that all participants are following safe boating practices and adhering to Ministry fishing guidelines.

“There is nothing that puts a smile on a kid’s face faster than catching a fish. That’s why I love to create opportunities for children and families to go fishing,” said Bob Izumi, chair of the Fish For Ever Foundation and star of Real Fishing Television.

“This program is (also) a perfect way for kids to learn that these dedicated men and women care about them as individuals, not as potential young offenders.”

Kids, Cops and Fishing is supported and sponsored by Fish For Ever - Kids, Cops and Canadian Tire Fishing Days, the Police Association of Ontario, Pro Bait and Tackle, Ramakko’s, Kal Tire, Canada Brokerlink and the Chief’s Youth Initiative Fund.

“The Greater Sudbury Police Service takes every opportunity presented to reach out to our community and participate in local events, especially those involving youth,” said GSPS chief Paul Pedersen.

For more information on this event, contact Cst. Mitch Brunette of the Greater Sudbury Police Service Rural Unit at 705-675-9171 extension 7794626 or via e-mail at [email protected].
