Public Health Sudbury reported one COVID-19 related death on Saturday

Public Health Sudbury & Districts reported a COVID-19 related death in Greater Sudbury. The individual was a resident of Amberwood Suites retirement home. A total of 10 deaths have now been reported across our service area since the beginning of the pandemic. Read more here.

Outbreak declared at Health Sciences North

Public Health Sudbury & Districts declared a COVID-19 outbreak at Health Sciences North’s Ramsey Lake Health Centre after a patient and a staff member tested positive for COVID-19. In a press release sent out Saturday night, HSN said the outbreak affects two hallways (J and K) of the sixth floor of the South Tower. Admissions and designated care partners to the affected unit are restricted. Patients are in isolation, being monitored and tested for symptoms. The hospital remains open with clinics and procedures continuing as normal. Read more here.

Second COVID-19 UK variant confirmed in Sudbury

Also reported Saturday night, Public Health Sudbury & Districts received confirmation from Public Health Ontario that a second individual in our service area has tested positive for the COVID-19 UK variant (B.1.1.7). This individual is one of the three possible cases of the more highly transmissible strain of COVID-19 reported on Feb. 5. Two possible cases are still pending confirmation as genome sequencing is still underway. More on that here.

Police seek assistance in locating missing person Stephanie Allan

Stephanie Allan, 29, is a Caucasian female. She is 5'3" tall, 110 lbs. with shoulder-length brown hair and hazel eyes. Allan was last seen in the area of Kathleen Street and Burton Avenue on Feb. 2 at 10 p.m. There is concern for Allan's wellbeing. Video: From B.C. to Ottawa carrying a cross for veterans and First Nations

With a nine-foot cross on his shoulders, Warren Parke is walking from Kelowna, B.C. to Ottawa to bring awareness to issues affecting veterans and First Nations communities. Sudbury.com met up with Parke on Saturday along with members of the Lockerby Legion as he made his way through Sudbury's South End with the large white cross, decorated with slogans and symbols. St. Gabriel Villa residents receive first dose of Moderna vaccine

On Feb. 6, 110 residents at Villa St. Gabriel Villa chose to receive their first dose of the Moderna vaccine. The LTC centre is a 128-bed facility. Last week, 54 residents at St. Joseph’s Villa in Sudbury received their first dose of the Moderna vaccine. The remaining 58 residents also received their vaccines on Feb. 6. Read more here.

All classes resume at Marymount today

Public Health Sudbury & Districts has declared the outbreak at Marymount Academy over and all classes will resume on Monday. PHSD declared an outbreak at the school on Jan. 25 after three individuals tested positive for the virus. The Sudbury Catholic District School Board suspended all classes at both Marymount and Pius XII on Jan. 26 to review health and safety protocols and ensure a safe environment for both students and staff. The week will being with a mix of sun and cloud. The daytime high will be -10 but with the wind chill it will feel more like -23 in the morning and -15 in the afternoon. Southwest winds are expected to reach 20 km/h near noon. It will be mainly cloudy overnight with a low of -17.
