Jailbreak: Police alerted the public about the escape of two men from Sudbury jail on Saturday night

Greater Sudbury Police alerted the public about the escape of Gaston Gagnon and Valentine Lechenkco from Sudbury jail last night. Shortly before 9:30 p.m. last night police tweeted that Lechenko had been located, and is back in custody. Gagnon remains at large. Gagnon was last seen shirtless, wearing white pants, orange shorts tucked in. Updates come as they are made available. If sighted DO NOT APPROACH Gagnon, simply call 911 with any information. 75-year-old Elliot Lake man charged in child pornography investigation

On Oct. 4, 2018, police executed a search warrant at a residence in the City of Elliot Lake, locating and seizing several computers, computer-related items as well as printed images. All of the seized items were found to be contaminated with child sexual abuse material.

As a result of this investigation, police arrested and charged Pern Terry Rowe, 75 years old, with the following criminal offences:
• Possession of child pornography x two (2) counts
• Access child pornography x one (1) countThe accused was held pending a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River, Ont. on Oct. 5, 2018. The investigation is continuing and police wish to speak with anyone that may have information related to the above criminal offences. Read the full story, here.

Wolves win in Erie Friday night, meet the Kitchener Rangers in Kitchener today

The Sudbury Wolves hit the Thanksgiving on a high note, defeating the Erie Otters south of the border on Friday night. Nolan Hutcheson was star of the game, scoring three goals and earning two assists. Wolves goaltender Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen was kept busy, as the Wolves were outshot by Erie 24-21. Rookie defenseman Isaak Phillips scored his first OHL goal early in the third. Anthony Tabak recorded three assists, and Blake McConville followed with two. Read the full story, here.

Report: Elsner investigation cost $811,027

The investigation into the misbehaviour of Frank Elsner cost $881,027, the Victoria and Esquimalt Police Board said Friday. Elsner, the former chief in Sudbury, was found guilty on eight counts of misconduct last month, as detailed in a report from the office of the police complaints commission. According to a report from the Victoria Times Colonist, the police board released a detailed breakdown of the costs of the lengthy investigation on Friday. Read the story, here.

 

Hayes and Nykilchyk repeat as city golf champs

On a cool day, with the rain thankfully holding off until the very end at the Lively Golf & Country Club, both Hannah Nykilchyk (Lockerby Composite) and Josh Hayes (Lo-Ellen Park Secondary) repeated as city champions. Nykilchyk cruised to an easy win with her score of 90, finishing one stroke per hole better than second place finisher Jamie Hein of Ecole secondaire Catholique l'Horizon. The battle with the boys was a much tighter affair, though in the end, Hayes would pull away, posting a six stroke victory over the Lockerby tandem of Emmett Taillefer and Alex Runciman.
