Good morning, Greater Sudbury.

Here are some stories to start your day.

Public meeting to offer update on Maley Drive construction:

Residents near the area where the Maley Drive extension is being built have been invited to a public meeting Wednesday for an update on the project. Staff and contractors working on the $80 million project will be on hand to give a presentation and answer questions. The meeting will be held at Ernie Checkeris Public School, 1570 Agincourt Ave., from 5-8 p.m. The presentation will take place at 6:30. David Shelsted, the city's roads director who is heading up the Maley project, said in a recent interview that the project is on budget and on time. The first phase of the project was visible to Sudburians last winter, when a section of Notre Dame Avenue was moved east, running under bridges built as part of the extension. "That contract will be wrapped up by this summer,” Shelsted said. The main road-building contract for the project, worth $38.5 million, was awarded to Terra North. That involves connecting the rest of Maley Drive, from Barrydowne Road to Frood Road, laying down four lanes of asphalt.

Giving hope to Sudbury is Troy Crowder's number one priority :

Sudbury Progressive Conservative candidate Troy Crowder welcomed a group of supporters into his new campaign headquarters on Lasalle Boulevard on Tuesday evening in celebration of the office's opening. With the Ontario general election just a little more than a month away, Crowder utilized his campaign office opening to continue drumming up support and speak about his vision for Sudbury, Northern Ontario, and the province. "I'm excited for what this city can do and should do, I've been frustrated for a long time with the way the government has been going," said Crowder. "This city has so much potential and the answers are in the people that live in this city." Crowder laid out his mantra of "Sudbury solutions, not Queen's Park excuses" as he gears up for the coming 40 or so days ahead of the June 7 election, where he will be up against Liberal MPP Glenn Thibeault and NDP candidate Jamie West in the Sudbury riding.

Conservation Sudbury continues to monitor watersheds around the city:

Conservation Sudbury has issued a watershed conditions statement that will be in effect until May 7. This statement has been carried over from an April 23 news release, and Conservation Sudbury will continue to monitor watershed conditions for the next week. Tuesday's statement once again falls into the second of five categories – water safety - for all parts of the Greater Sudbury watersheds effective 4 p.m. on April 30. The current Environment Canada forecast for the rest of the week indicates warmer temperatures during the day and cooler at night with some precipitation in sight. Water levels and flows on all water courses are already high due to recent thaw and will remain high for some time. Expect higher and faster-flowing water in most watercourses. The developing conditions must be closely monitored by all residents especially those living in known low-lying, hazard areas where overland flooding could become an issue. Residents in the city of Greater Sudbury who may experience problems due to overland runoff or flooding should call 3-1-1. The service operates 24 hours a day.

Lynn's Place turning 35 fashionably with help from Cityline stylist Lynn Spence:

Lynn's Place Fashion Boutique, the long-standing women's clothing store in Capreol, opened its doors nearly 35 years ago, on July 29, 1983. Owner Lynn Mazzuca said she decided to open a business in the small, outlying community because she'd lived there all her life. It also fit well with her family situation at the time. To celebrate the store's anniversary, Mazzuca is holding what's she's calling a "fashion luncheon" at Our Lady of Peace Church in Capreol starting at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, May 5. The event will include a fashion show, music and hot lunch. Lynn Spence, the fashion consultant from the Canadian talk show CityLine, will be there for the occasion. Tickets to the event, which supports the local cancer equipment fundraising group Angels in Pink, cost $50 and are available at Lynn's Place, which is located at 16V Young St. in Capreol. You can also get tickets by calling 705-858-1866.
