Greater Sudbury Police connects with community members at Blue Door soup kitchen BBQ

"I think they should do it more," patron Tyler Parkin said

Blue Door soup kitchen feeds up to 250 people a day. The outreach once again hosted a community barbecue, the second one this year. While members of Greater Sudbury Police Service helped to serve lunch, much of their time was spent talking with patrons.

"I think it's great. It encourages helpful things and build relationships, " Tyler Parkin said at one of the tables.

"I think they should all do it," Parkin said. "There's a real reward in helping someone. They don't realize it until they do it.  Obviously sometimes they send the same ones, but if they all did it, I think they'd find it rewarding."

Asked how she feels about the presence of police at the barbecue, Lisa Boudreau said the officers who come out are nice. "I don't mind," Boudreau said.  She shared a laugh with Constable Matt Hall as lunch was served.

Propane for the barbecue was provided by Partsource on Lorne Street.
