Sudbury Green Party candidate Bill Crumplin says the world owes thanks to young climate change activist Greta Thunberg

Thunberg is the 16-year-old Swedish teen started the #FridaysForFuture movement among young people, encouraging them to skip school and use the time to push adults to take climate change seriously.

Thunberg is regularly featured in media coverage and recently addressed the U.N. Trolled on Twitter by U.S. President Donald Trump, Thunberg famously turned his trolling into her Twitter bio, trollling the president back.

In a release, Crumplin said Thunberg has done what his party has spent 30 years trying to do: Wake the world up to the reality of the climate crisis.

Green Candidate Bill Crumplin says, “We have to thank Greta Thunberg. Greens have been trying to wake people up about the climate crisis for 30 years. She has done it”

“She wasn’t alone. There were a few hurricanes. There were a few fires, and there were thousands of scientists. But she got the youth moving.” said Crumplin. “And the youth are shaming political leaders into action.”

“She is right. We adults should be ashamed of ourselves. We didn’t act when we should have, now things are getting desperate.”

According to Crumplin, we have the technology and we know what we have to do. What we don’t have, he says, are politicians with the guts to tell it as it is.

“I am happy that the NDP finally has a climate policy. It is too bad it is too little, too late. I am glad Trudeau wants to be carbon-neutral by 2050 even though he doesn’t have a plan to get there,” says Crumplin. “Twenty years ago, people thought we Greens were extremists. Thanks to Greta Thunberg and her generation they are realizing we were right all along.”

It has taken a child to make people see.

“Thank you, Greta!"
