The Independent Police Oversight Review, a provincial body reviewing the work of police oversight organizations in Ontario, is coming to Sudbury.

The meeting will be Oct. 6 from 5-8 p.m. at the Cambrian Student Life Centre at Cambrian College, 1400 Barrydowne Rd.

The meeting will be led by Justice Michael H. Tulloch, who was appointed in April to independently review police oversight bodies, the province said in a news release. Tulloch is holding a series of public meetings across the province to seek input into his recommendations.

Tulloch is reviewing the Special Investigations Unit, the Office of the Independent Police Review Director and the Ontario Civilian Police Commission. Since his appointment, he has been holding consultations with various stakeholders and is now in the process of holding a series of 18 public meetings in addition to focused stakeholder meetings.

Tulloch will open the meeting and give a brief talk, followed by a short slide show. The meeting then will then break into groups who discuss their concerns about police for about an hour. Then a spokesperson for each table reports back and the judge sums up.

The first three public consultations were held in Toronto. After Sudbury, consultations will be held across the province, including the Greater Toronto Area, Ottawa, Sault St. Marie, Kingston, Hamilton, London and Windsor.

Tulloch is to deliver his findings by March 31 next year.

A full schedule of the public meetings can be found here: www.policeoversightreview.ca.
