A Nov. 9 fire at Green Zone Farms in Chelmsford burned a barn to the ground, destroying the equipment and hay stored inside.
The blaze set up a plume of smoke that could be seen as far as the downtown core, and can still be smelled in Azilda the next day, Greater Sudbury Fire Services platoon chief Walter Prechotko said.
The fire started just before 2 p.m., but firefighters remained on the scene of the blaze until late in the evening, extinguishing hot spots. Crews were on site again this morning to extinguish hot spots.
No one was injured in the fire, which also damaged nearby buildings, Prechotko said. Since the farm is a deer farm, the animals were outside and not injured either.
Greater Sudbury Police and fire services investigated the fire. While the cause of the fire remains undetermined, arson has been ruled out.
