Some Grade 11 boys at St. Charles College got quite a surprise Tuesday morning when they went into the school's change rooms after gym class, and discovered a strange man inside.
“It was an unfortunate situation,” said Sudbury Catholic District School Board director of education Joanne Bénard.
It turns out the man in question is in the habit of showering at the Nickel District Pool, which is attached to St. Charles College, but upon his arrival, was told the showers were out of order.
So he left the pool, found a side door at the high school that had been propped open, and made his way to the boys' change room and showered there instead.
He hadn't yet disrobed when the students discovered him and told staff members about the situation.
“In the meantime, the man did proceed to go into the shower,” Bénard said.
“The school administration secured the location. They locked the door and called the police. He was not an aggressive man. He literally was there for the shower.”
The unwelcome guest was then escorted to the bus stop by police officers.
“I guess what's important to note is that the children were not in danger,” Bénard said. “The boys that did see him, the administration talked to them, and they were not threatened by him.”
Bénard said there's only supposed to be one unlocked door at the high school — the main entrance, which is well supervised by staff members.
However, someone had propped open a side entrance.
The students have been asked by their principal to refrain from doing this, and staff members are now regularly checking side entrances to make sure they're properly closed.
