Now that Public Health Sudbury & Districts (PHSD) has hired a new medical officer of health (MOH), it is advertising to hire a new associate medical officer of health.

The job application was posted to social media on Monday.

This follows the recent announcement in November that a new medical officer of health was named to be the replacement for retiring MOH Dr. Penny Sutcliffe. The appointment for new MOH Dr. Mustafa Hirji is to take effect on March 18.

The job posting said a new associate would need to be "an outstanding public health medical professional with a passion for creating healthy communities and a commitment to a community-centred approach to health equity and evidence-based practice."

Further to that, the posting said the successful candidate would be required to meet several other requirements.

"As Associate Medical Officer of Health you will provide public health physician expertise to specific public health portfolios as assigned as well as contribute to overall agency leadership, including fostering a diverse and respectful work environment, reflecting Public Health’s values of trust, respect, and humility," said the posting.

"You will join a dynamic leadership team and staff dedicated to achieving the agency’s vision: Working with local communities to promote and protect health and to prevent disease for everyone," the posting continued.

The job also requires post-graduate training in public health at a master’s level, said the health unit.

PHSD said although the posting is for a full-time permanent position, shorter term contracts may be considered.

The new posting comes less than two years after a previous announcement where Dr. Imran Adrian Khan was hired by PHSD as the new Associate Medical Officer of Health.

Public Health advised Sudbury.com Jan. 11 that Dr. Khan resigned last year. The health unit offered no explanation as to why the public wasn’t informed of his resignation, which wouldn’t have become had Sudbury.com not asked.

"Dr. Imran Adrian Khan is no longer with Public Health Sudbury & Districts, having resigned in March 2023. His resignation was prior to the Minister of Health’s official approval of the Board of Health’s proposed appointment of Dr. Khan to the Associate Medical Officer of Health role," said the PHSD communications office.
