Dense fog in Greater Sudbury is expected to continue until later this evening, says an alert from The Weather Network, before giving way to freezing drizzle.

The fog is spread across areas north of Lake Huron, the network said in an alert Wednesday.

“A shift to a light northerly flow will allow the fog to begin to lift by early evening from New Liskeard to Elliot Lake and later this evening in the Sudbury and North Bay areas,” the alert said.

“However, the light northerly winds will also cause temperatures to drop below the freezing mark with freezing drizzle expected in many locales. As a result, as the fog begin to lift, untreated roads and sidewalks will become icy in many areas.”

Travel is expected to be hazardous due to reduced visibility and the possibility of slippery roads later in the evening.

“Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada,” the release said.
