Greater Sudbury and most of Ontario received a heavy dumping of snow Thursday evening and into Friday morning.

The snow will continue to be heavy all day, and end late Friday, says Environment Canada.

It's expected the Greater Sudbury area will be hit with an accumulation of 10 to 20 centimetres.

There will be blowing snow this morning, with the wind gusting from 50 to 70 kilometres per hour, according to Environment Canada.

All school buses in the Greater Sudbury area have been cancelled, although schools remain open.Const. Bert Lapalme of the Greater Sudbury Police Service advises drivers to slow down and not follow other cars too closely.

“People need to give themselves time to react,” he says.“Following too close is certainly something that is way too common in this type of weather.

In this weather, people should leave four and five seconds between themselves and the next car. By the time we see brake lights and it registers into our brain, you can cover the distance pretty quickly.

”Despite the bad weather, police had only responded to two collisions Friday morning.

A dance scheduled for Immaculate Conception school by the Sudbury District Catholic School Board on Friday evening has been cancelled because of the inclement weather. The dance is rescheduled for March 23 at 6 pm.
