Here are some of the businesses and services closed for National Truth and Reconciliation Day today

Although most private businesses appear to be open today, several government services and federally regulated institutions will be closed or be opened for shortened hours

Although today’s National Day for Truth and Reconciliation is not a provincial statutory holiday, various businesses and government organizations will close or have shortened hours. 

The following is a rundown of some of today’s holiday’s hours:

Banks and credit unions

  • Sudbury.com hasn’t confirmed with all bank and credit unions in Sudbury, however, it appears federally regulated banks will be closed. Sudbury Credit Union locations will be closed and Ukrainian Credit Union Limited will not process wire transfers and cheque processing today. Best to check with your bank before visiting.

Canada Post

  • There is no collection or delivery of mail today and post offices will be closed. Those in franchise locations may be open according to the host business’s hours of service.

LCBO

  • Stores throughout the province will be closed in the morning and open at 12 p.m. 

COVID-19 vaccinations

  • There don’t appear to be any COVID-19 clinics scheduled for today, with more information on future clinics available by clicking here. Health units will also not be updating local COVID-19 data as well, it appears.

Schools

  • Rainbow Schools and Sudbury Catholic School District schools will remain open and students will be encouraged to wear orange in recognition of the Every Child Matters movement. 
  • Post-secondary schools will be open, and Cambrian College, Collège Boréal and Laurentian University are recognizing Orange Shirt Day along with the Every Child Matters movement. Huntington University made the decision to close today to honour the occasion.

Municipal Service Schedule

Garbage and Recycling: 

  • There will be no household waste collection. Garbage, recycling and green carts normally collected today will be collected on Saturday, and the city encourages residents to have household waste at the roadside no later than 7 a.m.
  • Landfill and transfer stations will be open.
  • The Recycling Centre will be open.

Transit

  • GOVA Transit will follow regular service routes and schedules.

Libraries

  • Greater Sudbury Public Libraries and Citizen Service Centres will be closed today.

Indoor Fitness Facilities

  • The following facilities will be closed today: Rayside Balfour Workout Centre, Falconbridge Wellness Centre, Capreol Millennium Resource Centre, Dowling Leisure Centre and the Howard Armstrong Recreation Centre.
  • The following pools will be closed today: Gatchell pool, Nickel District pool, Dow pool, Onaping pool and the Howard Armstrong Recreation Centre.

Appointments at City facilities

  • Appointments at Tom Davies Square will not be available on the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
  • Appointments at the Greater Sudbury Animal Shelter will not be available today.

311 Services
