Update: Hwy 144 north of Sudbury reopened after more than 13 hours

Updated Feb. 15 at 9:2 a.m.: The Ontario Provincial Police advised that Highway 144 between Windy Lake Provincial Park Road and the Watershed was reopened at around 4:09 a.m. today. 

The crash, which police said today claimed the life of a Cartier resident, occurred at around 2:30 p.m. on Feb. 14. The investigation and removal of the transport truck and SUV involved in the crash kept the highway closed for more than 13 hours.

Highway 144 is closed in both directions from the Windy Lake Provincial Park Road at Cartier all the way to the Watershed at the junction of Highway 560 due to a motor vehicle crash, Ontario 511 is reporting.

While no details were provided on the Ontario 511 website, a social media posting on the Highway 144 Chelmsford to Timmins facebook page, said a tractor trailer had flipped onto its side Wednesday afternoon in an area of Highway 144 near the Windy Lake motel. 

The 511 notice was posted at 3:45 p.m. and no indication was provided on how long the road would be blocked. No information was available from Ontario Provincial Police at the time of publication.
