Highway improvements continue in northeastern Ontario

Fifty-nine different road projects in northeastern Ontario are nearing completion, and in the process are improving safety and creating 3,140 construction-related jobs in the area, a press release from the province stated.

Fifty-nine different road projects in northeastern Ontario are nearing completion, and in the process are improving safety and creating 3,140 construction-related jobs in the area, a press release from the province stated.

A total of 459 kilometers of highways are being repaved and expanded and 56 bridges are being built or repaired.

Key projects include expanding a new 17 km four-lane section of Hwy 69 from Parry Sound to Hwy 559, improving Hwy 6 on Manitoulin Island, improving sections of Hwy 144 south of Timmins and improving the Hwy 17 Bypass southeast of Greater Sudbury.

"We are investing record amounts into designing, repairing and expanding highways, roads and bridges," Kathleen Wynne, Minister of Transportation, said in the press release. "These investments are good news for Ontario families who depend on the safe and efficient movement of goods and people."
