Students and staff at Collège Notre-Dame have collected 3,200 pairs of socks for the clients at Association des jeunes de la rue.

The mountain of socks, along with a $500 donation from the school’s missionary club, was recently presented to Notre-Dame Home, a shelter run by Association des jeunes de la rue.

The fundraising campaign came about after the school's pastoral committee attended an open house at Notre-Dame Home.

Inspired by the classic film, “La guerre des tuques” (The Dog Who Stopped the War), the students chose “La guerre des bas” (The Battle of the Socks) as its theme. The different grades competed to see which one could collect the most socks.

The over goal was to collect 2,000 pairs of socks, but the students surpassed that goal.

“This is admirable display of charity and solidarity towards the homelsess by Collège Notre-Dame students, families and staff,” Johanne Chrétien, principal of Collège Notre-Dame, said in a press release.

“In addition to helping our fellow citizens deal with the cold weather and harsh elements in times of difficulty this winter, the drive provided our students with an opportunity to share and to support youth and adults in the community while discovering the reality of homelessness.”
