Members of HSNRI pleased with the ranking include, from left to right, Dr. Robert Ohle, Vice-President, Academic and Research Impact; Dr. Stacey Santi, Research Chair, Cancer Solutions; Joanne Guizzo, Administrative Director, Academic & Research Impact; and Dr. David Marsh, Research Chair, Mental Health and Addictions.

Sudbury's Health Science North (HSN) and the associated Health Sciences North Research Institute (HSNRI) continue to enjoy being ranked among Canada's Top 40 research hospitals, said a news release.

HSN and HSNRI said they were pleased to be ranked among Canada’s Top 40 Research Hospitals of 2023, via RE$EARCH Infosource and the Ontario Hospital Association. A recent news release from the Ontario Hospital Association said half of the top research hospitals in Canada were located in Ontario.

Sudbury’s HSNRI was listed as 40th in the list of 40.

By placing a focus on advancing patient care through evidence-based practice, HSN and HSNRI strive to generate research that will contribute to improving health outcomes for the people of Northeastern Ontario, said the hospital release.

In line with the organization’s key strategic themes, HSNRI appointed three new research chairs in 2023 to provide leadership in the areas of Cancer Solutions, Mental Health and Addictions (MHA), and Cardiovascular Health, and the search is currently underway for an Indigenous Health research chair to support expansion of this integral research program.

The hospital release offered a note of congratulations to all of the researchers who played an essential part in facilitating access to cutting-edge treatment for patients at HSN.
