The giving spirit is alive and well at the Sudbury Regional Hospital’s (HRSRH) Emergency Department, where staff are once gain supporting needy families in Sudbury.

Led by Emergency Department nurse Cathy Heffernan, the annual initiative began several years ago with two families, and has since grown to eight. Staff raffled off homemade quilts and baskets, sold tickets for prizes at their own staff Christmas party, and made personal contributions of money, toys and non-perishable food items.

“Our staff sees the effects of poverty everyday, and the negative health consequences it can bring,” said Kim Warren, Emergency Department clinical manager. “This year they dug deep in raising more than $3,000 and donating a number of items that will help make Christmas brighter for people in need.

“This annual initiative is reflective of a group that gives of themselves and works for this community 24/7, 365 days a year.”
