Every Oct. 31, Health Sciences North housekeeping employee Tim McCarthy takes it upon himself to spread a little Halloween cheer.

This year, he donned a long curly haired wig, black hat, sunglasses, bright orange tie, hospital gown and great big smile to hand out candy to staff, patients and visitors at Health Sciences North.

The Health Sciences North Foundation helps McCarthy out in his mission by sponsoring the candy.

"Tim goes above and beyond to make people smile,” said Holly Lielkalns, acting executive director of the Health Sciences North Foundation.

“What he does is a very simple gesture that has goes a long way to spread goodwill in the hospital, and the foundation is happy to be a part of this wonderful initiative.”

McCarthy has been dressing up on holidays for the past few years and said he'll will continue to do so as long he works at Health Sciences North.

“Dressing up puts a smile on people's face, especially the patients and the visitors,” said McCarthy, who has worked for the organization for 25 years. “It feels great to cheer them up.”
