The giving spirit is alive and well at the Sudbury Regional Hospital’s Emergency Department (ED), where staff are once gain supporting needy families in Sudbury, said a news release.

Led by ED nurse Cathy Heffernan, the annual initiative began several years ago with two families, and has since grown to eight. ED Staff raffled off home-made quilts and baskets, sold tickets for prizes at their own staff Christmas party, and made personal contributions of money, toys and non-perishable food items.

According to ED Clinical Manager Kim Warren, “Our staff sees the effects of poverty everyday, and the negative health consequences it can bring. This year they dug deep in raising over $1700.00 and donating a number of items that will help make Christmas brighter for people in need. This initiative grows every year, and it is reflective of a group that gives of themselves and works for this community 24/7, 365 days a year.”
