A heat warning has already been issued for Greater Sudbury and vicinity, and it's not even 10 a.m.

A hot and humid airmass has reached the area and will remain in place through Thursday night, said the advisory issued by Environment Canada.

It's expected that afternoon temperatures will hit 31 C today with humidex values making it feel even warmer.

Overnight minimum temperatures are likely to remain near 17 C or 18 C, providing little relief from the heat.

A cold front that was expected tonight, and would have made for cooler conditions and lower humidity for Friday, isn't expected to arrive until Saturday now, so expect tomorrow to be just as sweltering.

Extreme heat affects everyone.

The risks are greater for young children, pregnant women, older adults, people with chronic illnesses and people working or exercising outdoors.

Heat warnings are issued when very high temperature or humidity conditions are expected to pose an elevated risk of heat illnesses, such as heat stroke or heat.
