Health Sciences North is on their way to purchasing much-needed new MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) equipment thanks to a $500,000 donation from Carman and Sandy Fielding on Nov. 7.

"Sandy and I are pleased to support the purchase of new MRI equipment for Health Sciences North with our $500,000 donation," said Carman Fielding. "We know the importance of giving back to our community and making it a better and healthier place to live. This includes having the latest in MRI equipment to allow for the best possible care."

Health Science's North's current MRI equipment is 10 years old and nearing the end of its life cycle and currently operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The hospital performs approximately 13,000 MRI tests annually to support the treatment of 600,000 Northern Ontario residents.

Wait time for an MRI scan at HSN is 93 days for 90 per cent of patients, which is more than three times higher than the provincial target of 28 days.

Sudbury.com will have a full story on this morning's donation later today so be sure to check back with us.
