The single-vehicle crash that has closed Highway 144 today claimed the life of the driver, a person from Sudbury, the Ontario Provincial Police said.

First responders were dispatched shortly after 8:00 a.m. to an unincorporated area north of Sudbury, between Windy Lake Provincial Park and Cartier. Dispatched were the Nipissing West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Cartier Fire Service and Manitoulin-Sudbury Paramedic Services. 

"The lone driver, a 43-year-old-person from Sudbury, was pronounced deceased at the scene," police said.

The highway remains closed in both directions, while members of the OPP Traffic Incident Management Enforcement Team (T.I.M.E.) attended to assisted in the investigation.
