UPDATED - Aug. 13, 3:02 p.m.

The "Federal Express" stops, including two in Sturgeon Falls and Verner, have been cancelled due to the death of Mario Laguë, Ignatieff's director of communications.

Laguë was killed in a motorcycle accident while he was on his way to work Aug. 12. While Ignatieff stated the Federal Express, which Laguë was heavily involved in, will continue, new dates have not been announced for the Nickel Belt stops.

Original Story

Federal Liberal leader Michael Ignatieff will be visiting Sturgeon Falls and Verner as part of his Canada-wide tour.

Ignatieff will arrive in the towns on Aug. 15.

"The fact that Mr. Ignatieff has chosen Nickel Belt as one of his stops indicates the Liberal Party's confidence that this riding will once again be in Liberal hands," Joe Cormier, the Liberal candidate for Nickel Belt, stated in a press release.

He will be hosting a free corn roast at Leisure Farms at 744 Quesnel Rd. in Sturgeon Falls on Aug. 15, between 12:30 and 2:30 p.m., where local residents can come and meet Ignatieff.

Ignatieff will then visit the Co-Op Fuel bulk plant of Hwy. 17 at 3 p.m.
