It's warm in Sudbury today, but probably not record-beating

The Toronto Star is speculating that today's weather may beat a 53-year-old record in the city.

The forecast for Toronto is calling for a high of 27 C today. The record high for Oct. 18 took place in 1963 at 26.7 C.

Here in Sudbury, Environment Canada is calling for a high of 18 C today. 

Like in Toronto, the record high for Oct. 18 in Sudbury took place in 1963, when it got up to 23.9 C. 

So while it's going to be unseasonably warm today — the average maximum temperature for Oct. 18 in Sudbury is 9.6 C — the temperature is unlikely to beat any records.

By the way, the coldest Oct. 18 on record in Sudbury was in 1974, when it was -7.8 C.
