Jays beer tosser and former Sudburian pleads guilty to mischief

Ken Pagan was caught on video tossing a beer can in 2016

According to various media reports, Ken Pagan, the beer can tosser who made headlines last year for nearly striking outfield Baltimore Orioles’ Hyun Soo Kim, has pleaded guilty to a charge of mischief under $5,000.

Pagan made the plea this morning in a Toronto courtroom.

The incident in question occurred in October 2016 during a sudden death playoff game at the Rogers Centre between the Toronto Blue Jays and the Orioles. The can nearly struck Kim.

The incident created a media firestorm, especially after a photo of the alleged can tosser was released to media. Social media lit up with speculation about who the culprit could be, and many others, including some notable people like Mayor John Tory, condemned the action.

A photo of the alleged beer can tosser was released to media and Toronto police named the man as a suspect. Pagan later admitted the photo was of him and turned himself into police. The Jays stopped serving beer in cans for the rest of the playoffs as a result.

Pagan will be sentenced on June 28.
