STC/YES Theatre has announced a further two-week extension of its summer musical Jersey Boys until Aug. 27.

With a second extension officially coming, Jersey Boys will have run for almost two months straight, eight shows a week at Sudbury Theatre Centre.

A press release said the show officially became the longest-running show in Sudbury’s history last week.

This comes after the success of Elf the MusicalJoseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat and Jersey Boys.

The theatre companies said one year after joining together as presenting partners, YES Theatre and Sudbury Theatre Centre have hit a whopping $1 million in ticket sales.

Jersey Boys tells the rags to riches story of the rock and roll hall of famers. The show features iconic chart toppers including Sherry, Walk Like a Man, December 1963, Can't Take My Eyes Off of You and more.

“This year we really focused on the concept of relationship,” said associate artistic director Ruthie Nkut.

“The relationship we can build between our community and the art onstage, the people on stage and the theatre itself. What our successes have proven are that when people have a relationship to the material, they will see the show. This may seem obvious, but it actually speaks to a larger phenomenon in the arts. ‘Barbie,’ ‘Marvel,’ ‘Lord of the Rings’ and comparatively ‘Jersey Boys’ here — all of these wonderful pieces of art that have shifted the cultural pulse.

“Giving the audience what they want is a great thing - because art is for everybody. We are excited to see many of our patrons return to ‘Jersey Boys’ multiple times because of the special experience we have created with the show and we are also equally joyous to meet so many first time theatre goers who have felt a kinship with the content.”

Due to construction delays with the new outdoor Refettorio theatre, two upcoming STC/YES Theatre productions have been pushed back.

Romeo and Juliet, which was supposed to open at the Refettorio on Aug. 8, is now slated to run Aug. 22 to Sept. 3.

Similarly, Forever & For Always: The Music of Shania Twain, which was supposed to open at the Refettorio Aug. 9, has had its run changed to Sept. 7 through Sept. 24.

Sudbury Theatre Centre has now extended its box office hours throughout the week. The box office will now be open Mondays 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Tuesday to Saturday 12 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Adult ($50 +tax) and Youth ($35 +tax) tickets are available.

Jersey Boys is also included in the theatre companies’ 2023 5-Show Pass which saves purchasers 20 per cent on all applicable main stage shows.

Tickets are available at sudburytheatre.com.
