Keep in touch with loved ones in the hospital during the summer with the Sudbury Regional Hospital's Care Mail, an electronic message delivery service for patients.

“Care Mail is available year round as a way to stay in touch for family and friends who are unable to make a personal visit to a loved one or friend,” said Francoise Roussel, co-ordinator, Volunteer Services, in a news release. “During summer vacation, Care Mail may also offer comfort to families by relieving a bit of the anxiety and guilt of being away, and for some patients who may feel they don’t want to be the cause of a change in travel plans.”

As a regional hospital, 30 per cent of Sudbury Regional Hospital's patients come from outside the City of Greater Sudbury, making Care Mail an efficient and inexpensive method of sending get well thoughts or best wishes to a patient, stated the news release. Since it’s inception in April 2007, 1,057 messages have been delivered.

To send a patient a greeting, simply complete the necessary information under [email protected] and click send. The message will be sent to the hospital’s Volunteer Services, which will print and promptly hand-deliver it. E-mails received on the weekend or on holidays will be delivered the next business day.

For more information on Care Mail, visit the hospital’s website at www.hrsrh.on.ca and click on Patients and Visitors.
