Kids' books to be donated to hospital, walk-in clinics

Time spent waiting at the hospital and area walk-in clinics will pass by a little more quickly for children and families thanks to a massive donation of books from the community.

Time spent waiting at the hospital and area walk-in clinics will pass by a little more quickly for children and families thanks to a massive donation of books from the community.

More than 1,500 new and gently used children’s books have been collected at Cambrian College and are ready for distribution thanks to support for the Share a Book Program.

Launched at Cambrian College on Jan. 27, the Share a Book program puts books in the hands of children and families while they wait at area clinics and Sudbury Regional Hospital.

“Reading together helps develop language skills, and helps prepare younger children to read independently,” Emily Matheson, a faculty member in the college's Early Childhood Education program, said.

“Area clinics are busy and the wait can be long and tedious for both parents and children. Reading together is a great way to pass the time.”

Cambrian College staff and students from the College’s Early Childhood Education program organized the Share a Book program, with support from The City of Greater Sudbury’s Best Start Early Literacy Program.
