The people of the village of Killarney are letting people know that they are not impacted by the Parry Sound 33 fire.

A state of emergency was declared by the Municipality of Killarney for areas near the fire zone. The situation has confused some people, as the Municipality of Killarney includes not only the village, but also Hartley Bay, French River, Collins Inlet and Key Harbour, which are closer to the fire.

Parts of the municipality have been evacuated or are on a short-term evacuation notice.

“We would like to reassure residents and visitors to Killarney Village that there is no imminent danger at this time to the village or the Highway 637 corridor,” said a press release issued July 22 by the Municipality of Killarney.

In a Facebook post Sunday, Killarney Mountain Lodge thanked everyone for their concern, and said the phone calls have been touching.

“We have been in contact with the OPP and local officials and have determined Killarney Mountain Lodge and the Sportsman's Inn are in no immediate danger as the fires are a good distance from us,” the post said.

“We can also confirm there are no road closures affecting our guests. We will continue to monitor the situation and update you as needed. Let's hope for some rain so our neighbours to the south east can get some relief from these devastating fires. We also wanted to thank the brave men and woman who are fighting the fires around the clock trying to keep us safe — thank you.”

The Friends of Killarney Park put out a similar Facebook statement Monday about Killarney Provincial Park, which is close to the village of Killarney.

“Some of these affected areas fall within the boundaries of the Municipality of Killarney (bordered area), however, the Town of Killarney and Killarney Provincial Park remain unaffected by these events and remain open at this time,” the post said.
