The Ontario Ministry of Labour has issued three orders resulting from an incident Monday in which two excavators collided on a job site in the Valley.

The ministry investigated the matter after being alerted by Sudbury.com.

“The Ministry of Labour was notified this morning (Aug. 16) of a workplace incident where an excavator operator was on top of a trench lowering a storm pipe into the trench when the bank of the trench caved in and the excavator fell on top of another excavator,” said spokesperson Janet Deline in an email.

“Inspectors were dispatched and investigated.  No injuries were reported.”

Developer Belanger Construction was ordered to:

  • Complete and file a Notice of Project;
  • Ensure that every reasonable precaution shall be taken to prevent hazards to workers from energized electrical equipment; and,
  • Ensure that a level area extending at least one metre from the upper edge of each wall of an excavation shall be kept clear of equipment, excavated soil, rock and construction material.

“Our investigation is ongoing,” Deline added.
