A Legion member salutes during the 2021 Remembrance Day ceremony held at the cenotaph in Memorial Park.

Royal Canadian Legion Branch 564, Lockerby, invites the public to attend the 2022 Civic Remembrance Day Service at the Memorial Park Cenotaph downtown.

This ceremony will be Friday, Nov. 11, beginning at 10:35 a.m.

“In fostering remembrance and serving veterans, their loved ones, and this community, we are proud to gather at the Memorial Park Cenotaph, constructed in 1957 to keep the memory of our local heroes alive for generations to come,” said Jennifer Huard, president of Legion Branch 564.

On hand for the ceremony on will be Mike Jensen, a 20-year veteran of the Canadian Armed Forces.

“I am honoured be part of the act of remembrance at such a beautiful monument as we have at Memorial Park,” Jensen said in a news release. “The names of  brothers and sisters are inscribed on those walls (and) I am glad to be able to carry the torch in their memory, that we can live the  life that we do. We will remember.”

Because not everyone can stand for extended periods, the service will also be livestreamed to the video board inside Sudbury Arena for those unable to join in person. An inclement weather forecast could move the service indoors at Sudbury Arena.

Free parking will be available at the Minto and Elgin Street parking lots across from Sudbury Arena for the event.
